The core product remains in a maintenance-only cycle with no functional changes to address persistent onboarding and notification issues. **Overall trend**: Stable **Compared at**: 2026-08-20 ### Medium-impact changes - **[Added] Market Ranking Data** (positioning) - **[Shifted] Notification Fatigue Reclassification** (swot) ## What's New - **Latest (v3.18.3, 2 weeks ago):** Maintenance release addressing minor bugs and general performance improvements. ## App Momentum (Maintenance) {#momentum} - Ships minor bug fixes monthly. - No new feature builds released. > **Cadence:** 2 total versions · 0 majors in last 6 months · 20 days since last update · 30 days avg between updates ## The "So What?" (Strategic Takeaway) {#so-what} Safety tips is a weather app that is completely free. With a 2.47/5 rating from 494 reviews, it faces significant user friction. > **Bottom Line:** Safety Tips provides essential government-verified disaster data, but persistent onboarding failures and notification fatigue currently undermine its safety mandate. Addressing these technical regressions would restore the app's utility as a reliable emergency resource for foreign residents in Japan. **Best for:** Foreign tourists and foreign residents in Japan who require disaster information and emergency guidance in their native language. ### PM Action Plan (Next Best Moves) - [ ] [INVEST] Rebuild onboarding flow because setup failures are the top churn risk → increase initial user retention ### Outlook: Declining The platform is currently in a maintenance-only cycle, with no significant feature expansion to address the technical instability reported by users. Without a rebuild of the onboarding and notification systems, the app remains exposed to churn as users seek more reliable, albeit less specialized, weather alternatives. - 🔴 Persistent onboarding failures in the latest version prevent new users from accessing the interface, which directly limits the app's reach during disaster events. - 🔴 Excessive push notifications for minor weather events desensitize users to critical alerts, leading to high opt-out rates and reduced app utility. ## Key Metrics Summary | Metric | Value | | :--- | :--- | | Overall Rating | 2.47/5 | | Total Reviews | 494 | | Sentiment | Frustrated (25/100) | | Confidence | High | | Pricing Model | Free | | Platforms | iOS & Android | | Key Features | 3 analyzed | | Trend | Stable | | Outlook | Declining | ## Competitor Comparison | App | Rating | Sentiment | Developer | | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Safety tips** (this app) | 2.47/5 | Frustrated | RC Solution Co. | | [Bauernkalender](https://marlvel.ai/apps/ch-swift-bauernkalender) | N/A/5 | N/A | Swift Management AG | | [Forecast & What to Wear](https://marlvel.ai/apps/com-appsforparents-weatherforkids) | 4.2/5 | N/A | Natalia Jakubczyk-Gajewska | | [Weather&Clothes](https://marlvel.ai/apps/com-air-weather_and_clothes) | 2.7/5 | N/A | fk.system | | [처음날씨 - 잠금화면 및 알람으로 오늘의 날씨를!](https://marlvel.ai/apps/com-woozuda-weather) | 4.2/5 | N/A | WOOZUDA | | [미세미세 - 미세먼지, 초미세먼지, 날씨](https://marlvel.ai/apps/cheehoon-ha-particulateforecaster-particulateforecaster) | 4.8/5 | Excited | LifeOverflow Inc. | ## Company Profile - **Developer:** RC Solution Co. - **Website:** [https://www.rcsc.co.jp/safetytips-sp](https://www.rcsc.co.jp/safetytips-sp) ## Data Sources & Links - **App Store:** [View on Apple Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/safety-tips/id858357174?uo=4) - **Google Play:** [View on Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.rcsc.safetyTips.android&hl=en&gl=us) - **Dev Site:** [Official Website](https://www.rcsc.co.jp/safetytips-sp) - **Sources:** Developer website content, About us / company information, App store metadata, User reviews. ## Related Intel Reports - [*Bauernkalender*](https://marlvel.ai/apps/ch-swift-bauernkalender) (Swift Management AG) · N/A Rating - [*Forecast & What to Wear*](https://marlvel.ai/apps/com-appsforparents-weatherforkids) (Natalia Jakubczyk-Gajewska) · 4.2/5 Rating - [*Weather&Clothes*](https://marlvel.ai/apps/com-air-weather_and_clothes) (fk.system) · 2.7/5 Rating - [*처음날씨 - 잠금화면 및 알람으로 오늘의 날씨를!*](https://marlvel.ai/apps/com-woozuda-weather) (WOOZUDA) · 4.2/5 Rating - [*미세미세 - 미세먼지, 초미세먼지, 날씨*](https://marlvel.ai/apps/cheehoon-ha-particulateforecaster-particulateforecaster) (LifeOverflow Inc.) · 4.8/5 Rating | Positive Sentiment - [*너의날씨: 미세먼지, 지도, 레이더, 캐릭터, 위젯*](https://marlvel.ai/apps/kr-guzi-yourweather) (구지랩(GuziLab)) · 5.0/5 Rating - [*ชายฝั่ง รู้ทันระดับน้ำ*](https://marlvel.ai/apps/hii-pttep-chaifang-mobile) (Hydro Informatics Institute) · 4.9/5 Rating - [*ภัยพิบัติไทย*](https://marlvel.ai/apps/biz-harmoniz-earthquake_alert_thai) (Harmoniz InterSoftware) · N/A Rating - [*13abc First Alert Weather*](https://marlvel.ai/apps/com-gray-wtvg-13abc-weather) (Gray Television Group, Inc.) · 4.6/5 Rating - [*13WarnMe*](https://marlvel.ai/apps/13warnme) (Local TV LLC) · 3.0/5 Rating ## Frequently Asked Questions {#faq} ### Is Safety Tips reliable for emergency alerts in Japan? Safety Tips provides government-verified disaster information under the supervision of the Japan Tourism Agency. While the data source is authoritative, users report technical issues like onboarding failures and app crashes that may impact reliability during an emergency. ### Does Safety Tips work offline? The current version requires an active internet connection to receive real-time disaster notifications. Users have requested offline functionality to ensure access to safety information when cellular or Wi-Fi networks fail during a disaster. ### Why am I receiving so many weather notifications? Users report that the app sends frequent alerts for minor weather events. You can manage your notification settings within the app's menu to select specific locations and warning types, though some users find the current alert system overly sensitive. ### What is a good alternative for disaster alerts in Japan? While Safety Tips is the official government-supervised app for foreigners, users often supplement it with local municipal apps or general weather services that offer more granular control over notification frequency and offline access. ## Methodology {#methodology} This report was generated by Marlvel.ai's 5-stage AI intelligence pipeline: 1. **Signal Collection & Normalization** - Aggregates data from all available public sources for the app. Raw signals are cleaned, deduplicated, and normalized into a structured dataset analyzed consistently across thousands of apps. 2. **Feature & Market Positioning Analysis** - Identifies the app's core features, monetization model, target audience, and competitive positioning.
