  1. vVARYAndroid
This update includes various app and performance improvements.
  2. v1.4.13iOS
    • I foolishly un-fixed an issue triggering crashes on iPads running iPad OS 18+. That's re-fixed.
    • Fixes bug affecting default playlist sort order.
  3. v1.4.12iOS
    • Minor bug fixes and optimizations.
  4. v1.4.11iOS
    - Fixed issue causing crashes on later versions of iPad OS.
    - Further minor UI updates and adjustments.
  5. v1.4.10iOS
    Minor UI updates and adjustments.
  6. v1.4.9iOS
    - A few more "minor" bug fixes. They're the most severe showing up on the crash reports, but much more minor than previously! Seems like the recent update has resolved a lot of crashes.

But I know a few folks are still having issues. Hopefully this fixes it, if not, let me know! There's a major update in the works...
  7. v1.4.8iOS
MASSIVE thanks to Ken M. for sharing some additional details in regards to the ongoing crash issue. It turns out it's not related to my awards code at all! It's an issue with polling the status of the system player, which is a frustratingly regular source of crashes and an issue I am working on across all my apps, just not PlayTally. (Did you know I have other apps? Check'em out!)

The good news is that bulk of the crashes are associated with the system polling that shows the playback progress of the current song. And THAT is a totally superficial feature that is not worth a substantial set of users experience this issue. So it's turned off while I explore solutions.

I sincerely hope that this finally resolves the issue for those experiencing it. If not, please continue to let me know!
  8. v1.4.7iOS
Hey! So some users seem to be experiencing crashes on launch over the last few months. Firstly, I apologize to those users that are experiencing problems. It's been difficult to conclusively resolve.

That said, the reports of issues seem to have started around the time the year end awards were introduced in November. Since those won't trigger until next November, all of that code has been disabled.

If you have been experiencing the crash on launch issue and this resolves it, please let me know! If it doesn't, let me know that too!

And if you aren't experiencing the issue, and are enjoying your PlayTally experience, please consider posting a rating and review!! Thanks :)
  9. v1.4.6iOS
    NEW Display Options in Settings:
    • Includes NEW toggle for time listed format: keep the new minutes-only format, or revert to the old Hrs. + Min. style.
    • This section also collects the visual option settings from the Trending and Browse tabs.
  10. v1.4.5iOS
    • Fixed TSV Export crash on iPad
    • Fixed crash on launch some users were experiencing recently
    • Optimized History range deselection
    • Fixed repetitive Daily Listening Award presentation
  11. v1.4.4iOS
    • Minor bug fixes :)
  12. v1.4.3iOS
    • NEW Trending Sort option: Time Listened
    • NEW yearly wrap-up awards!
    • Changed some duration formatting from 0h 0min to just minutes. Easier to understand AND more impressive!

Replay/Wrapped time of year where PlayTally gets the most new users. If you are enjoying the app, please consider leaving a review for the newbies! :)
  13. v1.4.2iOS
    Crash log fixes.
  14. v1.4.1iOS
    • Minor bug fixes
  15. v1.4iOS
You people asked for it: this update adds Albums and Genres to the Trending tab!!

This feature required adding a new data property to each songs playback history. Trending albums and genres will become visible as you listen more and engage with content within the app. You can use the "Force Scan" option in the Settings tab to fast-track this process for your existing data.
  16. v1.3.2iOS
Additional stability improvements to the History tab.

If you are enjoying PlayTally, please consider leaving a 5-star review on the App Store! They really help new users make the decision to give the app a try :)
  17. v1.3.1iOS
    • Threading changes to the search logic. Most users with small-medium library should find no noticeable difference. Hopefully this will be the same for users with large libraries – the new code is more stable :)
  18. v1.3iOS
This update includes substantial performance improvements – like, embarrassingly so – when handling large amounts of data (i.e. Lifetime stats) in the History and Trending tabs.

    ---

PlayTally is fastest and most accurate when it scans the users music library regularly:
    - Creating an automated Shortcut to open PlayTally daily or weekly is a GREAT way to ensure data does not backlog. I STRONGLY recommend users implement this.
    - Keeping Background Sync enabled allows more frequent scans without disrupting your flow.
  19. v1.2.2iOS
This update fixes the display-related crashes some users are experiencing. Last update's notes are important, so they are repeated below.

    ---

There have been some reviews and reports from users of the app "stopping working (entirely)". I think the issue here is actually that PlayTally is working TOO hard! If a very large backlog of playback activity builds up, it can take some time for it all to be processed. This happens in the background, and in previous builds could appear as inactivity, or simply "not working".

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO, MIKE?
    - This update brings improvements to visualizing this work process, so it's more clear to the user that the app is indeed doing work.
    - Improvements to prevent disruptions to the syncing process.
    - Improvements to the Import/Export functionality. Note: this includes some formatting updates (to support stricter iOS 16 updates), so users may find old archives do not import cleanly.

As always, thanks for the support! I hope every one of you have a wonderful New Year.
  21. v1.2iOS
Today's update brings a non-descript but very powerful new feature: History Editing.

Now when viewing a song, tap "View History" to call up a list of all of that tracks recorded playback events. You can edit, remove and even create individual play events to fine-tune your PlayTally records.
  22. v1.1iOS
    HamburgfonstivWTF?!

Previous builds seem to be employing a threading strategy that recent versions of iOS 15 doesn't like. While scrolling this could result in information not being presented correctly, or at all (showing the placeholder text instead). Things have been updated and everything should be displaying correctly again.

I appreciate everyones patience with this update. As many may know, PlayTally is a single-person operation and life got in the way of pushing this update in a more timely manner. Thank you!
  23. v1.0.15iOS
A small but important update: a fix to the crashing issues using the "Import CSV" function.

I wanted to get this out ASAP, so stay tuned for new additions in the future.
  24. v1.0.14iOS
    • Transfer History: got stats for the same song split across a single version and album version? Now you can transfer PlayTally play events from one playback history to another and merge those plays! Note: I'm working on trying to merge the actual Apple Music plays as well, but for now this feature can only move PlayTally's own play records.
  25. v1.0.13iOS
    • New Love and Dislike controls in the song contextual menu.
  26. v1.0.12iOS
    • A few minor bug fixes. To be more specific, I modified the date calculation methods in a few places.

Thanks for all the feedback so far!
