What’s New
T-Mobile Satellite Connectivity We are excited to support the next generation of off-grid safety. Gaia GPS is now compatible with T-Mobile’s direct-to-cell satellite technology. Even when you are miles away from the nearest cell tower, you can maintain a connection to the world and keep your tracks moving.

iOS 26 Compatibility We’ve updated the app to run seamlessly on iOS 26. This includes optimization for the latest system features and ensured stability for the new "Ultra-Constrained" network states.

Bug Fixes
Ascent and Descent Accuracy We fixed a bug where elevation gain and loss were being calculated incorrectly on certain saved routes. Your vertical stats will now accurately reflect the true effort of your climb (and the relief of your descent).

Map Deletion Sync Fixed an issue where deleted offline map areas would occasionally reappearance on other devices. Deleting a map on your iPhone will now correctly sync that deletion across your iPad and web account, keeping your storage organized.

• Waypoints Finally Remember They Have Elevation
Your saved waypoints were going through an identity crisis and forgetting how tall they were. We've given them a pep talk. They now proudly display their elevation.

• Remove From Folder Option Re-Added
Folders were getting clingy. You can now remove items again without hurt feelings.

• Switched to a New Elevation Service
We’ve swapped elevation services so your stats are now powered by a fresher, crunchier data source. Peaks and valleys should feel more… peak-y.

• Nautical Miles Are Nailed Down
If you’re navigating by sea (or just feel like a sailor), your nautical mile route calculations now make sense and won’t accidentally send you to Atlantis.

* Trail signs ahead: The paywall now shows a clear side-by-side map of Premium vs. Outside+ so you know exactly which path to take.
* No more getting lost: If your session times out, you’ll get a friendly nudge to log back in before sync goes off-trail.
* Picture-perfect maps: Download screen thumbnails now match the layer you’re grabbing—no more mystery terrain.
* Extra baggage removed: Premium subscribers won’t see the Start Free Trial button hitching a ride anymore.
* Stray tracks fixed: We squashed an issue where some folks wandered into “anonymous” land from the Welcome screen.
* Route crash detour closed: Built-in bug spray for that route-building crash.
* Elevation dialed in: Imported tracks turned into routes now show ascent and descent that won’t leave you gasping for air.

Seamless Subscription Process: Resolved a crash that could occur immediately after a subscription purchase, providing a smoother and more seamless upgrade experience.

2025.6.2 Update

In our last update, we were a little too enthusiastic about adding new features... and accidentally added a few bugs along the trail. Oops!

We’ve packed our virtual bug spray and stomped out the issues.

We've been hard at work fixing some pesky issues to make your outdoor adventures smoother.
What's Fixed:

Map Layer Controls
Fixed the toggle behavior for layered maps - they now turn on and off as expected (what a concept!).

Map Thumbnails
Resolved an issue where map thumbnails weren't updating properly. Your previews now show current data.

Track Rendering
Eliminated a crash that occurred during track rendering. The app now stays put while showing your routes.

Sync Improvements
Fixed an intermittent crash during sync operations. Data syncing is now more reliable.

Gaia GPS 2025.5 — Fewer Crashes, Cleaner Layers, and Smoother Routes Ahead
We’ve charted a course through some rocky terrain in this release, knocking out bugs that have been lurking behind the trail signs. Here’s what we mapped out:
We melted a nasty freeze when saving routes. You can now sketch out your next big adventure without the app turning into a snowdrift.
We recalibrated how we draw areas on the map, so you can trust your outlines won’t wander off-trail.
A missing value was causing routing to take some creative liberties. We brought it back in bounds.
Some layers were echoing features like a confused topographic yodel. We’ve cleared up the noise — what you see is what’s actually there.
Viewing tracks without full stats was sometimes causing a meltdown. That bug’s now off the grid.
A sneaky internal structure change was causing saved items to panic. We reinforced the foundation, so your folders stay rock solid.
This update keeps Gaia GPS on track — literally. As always, let us know if you spot any unexpected detours. We’ll reroute.

Gaia GPS 2025.4 - Trail Maintenance for the Soul
We hit the trail to fix a few bugs. Ended up clearing out a whole overgrown mess.
Tracks were oversharing like a guy who just got back from a solo thru-hike — so we made folder stats optional. Public links were veering off trail — those are back on course now. Waypoints were duplicating like bad campsite rumors. That chaos is handled.
Crashes? We didn’t just fix them — we built a fire, told scary stories about them, and made sure they never came back.
Mobile and web sync? Finally hiking in step.
Splash screens? Polished like your favorite camp mug.
Swipe-to-delete maps? Yep. Say goodbye to clutter like it’s gear you thought you’d need.
We even found a weird old disclaimer key lurking in the codebase, said “nah,” and tossed it out with the trash bag you forgot at camp.
This update clears brush, smooths trails, and tightens gear.

And if anything still breaks, we’ll be in the woods hunting it with headlamps and sarcasm.

Gaia GPS 2025.3 – The One Where We Fix All the Things
Like a solid recovery winch, this update pulls Gaia GPS out of a few sticky situations. We smoothed out the bumps, cleared some obstacles, and even gave the app a bit of a refresh. Here’s what’s new:
Bug Fixes & Improvements:
	•	Route planning no longer crashes. Your adventure ideas should lead to epic trips, not the spinning wheel of doom.
	•	Map labels now actually fade when adjusting layer opacity. Before, they clung on like that one friend who insists, “I’m totally fine without a GPS.” Not anymore.
	•	Map layer notifications now make sense. You’ll only get updates when they’re useful, not just when the app is feeling needy.
	•	The Gaia Original app icon is back! We ditched the yellow border and returned to our roots—because some classics just can’t be improved.
	•	Tapping a track won’t send the app into a panic. Now you can relive your past trips without the app deciding to peace out.
	•	Shared folders now have proper boundaries. Editors can no longer move stuff they don’t own—because digital anarchy isn’t a great file management strategy.
	•	The Activity Feed (Home Tab) navigation is now smoother. Less getting lost in the app, more finding adventures.
	•	iPad split-screen mode behaves itself. The bottom tab bar was blocking map buttons like an overpacked rooftop tent. It’s been downsized.
	•	“Delete” is now “Archive.” Because let’s be honest, nothing was really getting deleted—it was just going on an extended vacation.
