OmniFocus 4.7 introduces three powerful enhancements: a new “Planned” date type, the ability to create mutually exclusive tags, and improved repeat functionality (including new support for setting a repeat to end after a specific date or set number of repetitions). These features require migrating your database format, using our updated migration flow.

This release also includes a range of improvements which do not require a database migration: new Forecast functionality, Time Sensitive Notification support, improved shortcut actions, and more!

• Database Migration — Some features in this release require a new database format. The updated database migration assistant will prompt to migrate your database after all syncing copies of OmniFocus have updated to 4.7 (database migration can also be initiated manually via the Migrate Database option, available in the menu bar on macOS and in Settings on iOS, iPadOS, and visionOS).
• Planned Dates — Items can now be assigned a Planned Date, in addition to a Defer and a Due Date. A Planned Date is the date an action, action group, or project is scheduled for work. (Planned dates require database migration.)
• Mutually Exclusive Tags — Mutually exclusive behavior can now be enabled for tag groups. When enabled, only one tag from a tag group can be assigned to an item at a time; when an additional tag from this group is assigned, the previously assigned tag is removed. Mutually exclusive tags can be useful in a variety of workflows, including priority and energy level assignment. (Mutually exclusive tags require database migration.)
• Improved Repeats — A range of new repeat behaviors can now be configured in the updated Repeat Inspector. (New repeat behaviors require database migration.)
Repeat Limits — Repeats can now be set to end after a date or set number of repetitions.
Automatic Catch Up — Repeating items now skip forward to next future date when “Catch up automatically” is enabled.
Repeat Schedules — Improved scheduling flexibility for items that repeat on a regular schedule.
Inspector — New interface for editing repeats. When not editing, repeat behavior is now summarized in Inspector.
• Forecast — Forecast has been updated to better summarize relevant items and improve date assignment.
Summary Dots — New summary dots in Forecast date header and calendar sidebar communicate how many items are due, due soon, or have been assigned a due date on a given day. Summary dots can be hidden if desired in the Notifications Settings.
Counts — Summary counts in Forecast now count all displayed items (previously, counts only included due items). Count behavior can be customized in the Notifications Settings.
Date Assignment — New “In Forecast: Add or drag to assign” Organization setting determines whether a Defer, Planned, or Due Date is assigned when adding new actions and projects, or dragging existing actions and projects to a date tile.
• Time Sensitive Notifications — OmniFocus notifications now default to Time Sensitive alert behavior.
• Shortcuts — New “Find Perspective” shortcut action.
• Localizations — Additional content has been translated throughout the app.
• Terminology — Standardized wording and capitalization for consistency across platforms (most changes pertain to dates, notifications, and settings).
• Help — Help menu item now opens in app documentation (rather than re-directing to the online manual).
• Help — Help content has been substantially updated, including consolidation of OmniFocus for the Web documentation into the OmniFocus 4 Reference Manual.
• Forecast — Date tiles in the Forecast sidebar no longer use colored backgrounds and text to indicate due and overdue items (since this state is now communicated with the summary dots).
• Notifications — Notifications are no longer applied to future instances of repeating actions and projects.

OmniFocus 4.6 improves note and attachment functionality on all supported platforms, with new support for image attachment resizing and paste behavior refinements. This release also introduces new attachment and link contextual shortcut menus on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro, and brings support for custom font display to these platforms.

• Attachments — Image attachments can now be resized within a note.
• Paste — New "Pasting from other apps” setting offers options for paste behavior when pasting styled text.

• Sync — Fixed issue where devices could ignore some received changes, if integrating those changes was initially blocked by in-progress edits. Changes were safely preserved in the database, and newly received changes would continue to successfully sync. OmniFocus now checks during each restart to see if there are changes which have not yet been integrated, and immediately integrates them. If there are expected changes you are not seeing on your device, please quit and reopen OmniFocus. Sync log now captures more detail related to this situation.
• Tips — Fixed crash related to “Customize Inspector” tip.

• Sync — Updated “Phone Sync” toggle label to “Optimize sync using iPhone” to clarify the function.

Our new Shortcuts actions have been developed using the latest Apple technologies, with each action having a streamlined focus. • Outline — Fixed a bug that could cause new items to sometimes appear to be added above the previously selected outline row instead of below it.
• Omni Automation — Addressed an installation path bug that could occur for Github hosted plug-ins installed via Install Link.
• Perspectives — "Due Soon" status filter no longer includes items which have inherited the completed (or dropped) status from a project or parent.
• Sync — Disconnected database transaction files detected on the sync server are now cleaned up after one week.

iPhone & iPad

• Dates — Fixed a bug that could cause date changes in date picker to be discarded if time is also changed.
• Keyboard — Displayed hardware keyboard row highlight now stays in sync with actual outline selection.
• Outline — Improved animation after marking an item complete.
• Outline — Creating items in a previously empty outline via hardware keyboard no longer breaks drag & drop.
• Outline — Scroll gesture no longer breaks up/down keyboard navigation in outline.
• Repeats — Restored ability to customize days of week for monthly repetitions.
• Stability — Fixed a crash that could occur on sync in certain app states.

Apple Watch

• Complications — Circular Infographic complication now displays relevant task title in addition to item count.
• Sync — Watch app now attempts to connect to the network immediately when launched while in low power mode.

OmniFocus 4.3.2 is a minor update focused on bug fixes.

• Forecast — Improved item sorting in Forecast, so items are sorted on selection change or Clean Up whenever Keep Sorted is enabled.
• Stability — Fixed a crash sometimes encountered while calculating the location of an item in Forecast.

Mac

• Multiple Windows — Database rebuilds will now reopen all windows which were previously open, rather than only reopening a single window.
• Notes Inspector — Fixed a bug where links added to notes using “Edit > Add Link…” could sometimes get lost.
• Performance — Improved the performance of completing items by clicking on the status circle.

iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro

• Drag & Drop — Adding items to the outline no longer breaks the long-press drag gesture.
• Inspector: Title — Fixed a bug editing the title field with a hardware keyboard where the field could lose focus immediately after being tapped unless you tapped on another inspector field first.
• Inspector: Notes — Fixed a bug that could cause note edits in the inspector to be copied to a different item.
• Omni Automation — Automation scripts that present forms should no longer run into an error saying “No presenting view controller found.”
• Stability — Fixed a crash encountered when an building a Spotlight index after conflicting edits deleted an item which had a tag assigned to it on another device.
• Sync Settings [Apple Vision Pro] — Updated the Replace Sync Data dialog to have a more reasonable size on visionOS.
• VoiceOver — Fixed a recent regression from the inspector redesign in 4.3 that could cause VoiceOver to get stuck in the top toolbar rather than navigating through the inspector fields.
• VoiceOver — Made it possible to navigate through search results that return results from outside the current perspective (i.e. when using the “Search Remaining” and “Search Everything” options).

• Custom Perspectives [Pro] — Displayed perspective rules now refresh automatically when changed in another context (such as another window, another device, or through some automation).
• Custom Perspectives [Pro] — When a perspective is organized by projects, hiding the “Preserve hierarchy” switch, its hidden value no longer affects the contents of the perspective.
• Custom Perspectives [Pro] — Restored ability to cancel out of upgrading legacy custom perspectives.

OmniFocus 4.3 introduces support for device Focus Filters and a new Set/Remove Favorite Perspective shortcut. Additionally, this release includes a wide range of improvements and bug fixes, including new custom perspective rule comments, enhanced Apple Watch sync reliability, and improved outline behavior in a variety of contexts.

All Platforms:

• Device Focus Filters — In the Focus section of the Settings app, you can now configure Focus Filters for OmniFocus to limit which folders are visible when a device Focus is enabled. Note that when a device Focus is applied in this way, it’s no longer possible to use the custom Focus feature in OmniFocus Pro until you exit the device Focus.
• Shortcuts — New Set/Remove Favorite Perspective shortcut. With this shortcut, you can change your favorite perspectives based on your device focus or by using a Siri command.
• Custom Perspectives — You can now intersperse comments among your perspective rules.
• Clean Up — Selected items now immediately clean up when removed from current view via drag & drop or a key command.
• Inspector — Updated Inspector layout code to be better shared cross-platform, including some visual changes for cross-platform consistency.
• Localizations — Localization updates.
• Outline — Improved overall stability/reliability of outline order when editing.
• Review — Review now supports filtering by availability.
• Custom Perspectives — The correct tag is now assigned when adding an action to a custom perspective which groups actions by tag but doesn’t sort them in Tags Order.
• Quick Open — Fixed a bug where using Quick Open to find a project or folder would fail to select that target in the sidebar when the window was focused.
• Sidebar — Fixed a bug that could cause content displayed in the outline to fall out of sync with the selection in the sidebar.
• Stability — Crash fixes.

iPhone & iPad:

• Outline — Outline content is no longer pinned to bottom of the screen when scrolling.
• Outline — Note icons now float towards the trailing edge of the row (where they’re more likely to align with other note icons) rather than being placed adjacent to the title text.
• Widgets — The small Forecast widget for the Lock Screen now counts items that are due soon as well as those that are overdue. For customers who prefer to count only overdue items, we’ve added a separate Overdue widget.
• Expansion State — Fixed a bug that could cause collapsed parent items in the sidebar and outline to be incorrectly displayed as expanded.
• Forecast — Fixed a bug that could cause calendar events to disappear when scrolling.
• Outline — All four corners of row selection highlight are once again rounded.
• Outline — Attachments can now be deleted from notes in the outline.
• Performance — Very large image attachments no longer negatively impact performance.
• Select Mode — Addressed incorrect row spacing that could occur when scrolling with Select Mode enabled.
• VoiceOver — Search results for a Here scoped search are now accessible to VoiceOver.
• VoiceOver — Focus is now always placed immediately in the title field when the “Edit in Inspector” VoiceOver action is invoked.
• VoiceOver — Estimated Duration units are now read correctly by VoiceOver.

Apple Watch

• Note Indicator — Items now indicate when they have a note or attachment.
• Complications — The Forecast complication now counts items that are due soon as well as those that are overdue. For customers who prefer to count only overdue items, we’ve added a separate Overdue complication.
• Sync — When a paired iPhone is nearby, the watch app will now download recent changes from that iPhone prior to syncing with the sync server. This makes syncing faster and more reliable when the watch doesn’t have a fast connection to the sync server.
• Sync — The watch app now attempts to sync automatically whenever it detects that the iPhone app has newer data.
• Complications — Improved display and reliability of watch complications.

OmniFocus 4.2.2 is a minor update focused on bug fixes.

• Stability — Addressed a crash that could occur when swiping between outline and sidebar or rapidly tapping on a Perspectives Bar tab.
