Original release notes
Pool Pilot 1.8.1 gives every recommendation a second look before it reaches you, hands you the final say on calibration, and treats bromine water as bromine water. ADVICE THAT CHECKS ITSELF FIRST Every test result is now measured against what your pool could actually have done since your last test. If a reading has moved further than water chemistry allows, Pool Pilot holds the recommendation rather than acting on it, shows you this test beside the last one, and asks you to confirm — with a fresh strip, a recalibration, or manual entry. The same care runs through the recommendations themselves. Shock is suggested only when combined chlorine has actually been confirmed. Partial drains arrive as a percentage and a gallon amount, worked out from your pool volume and stating it on the card so you can correct it if it is wrong — and in stepwise amounts, because several small drains are safer than one big one. When a reading drops sharply, you get a heads-up to retest before you dose. CALIBRATION IS YOURS TO APPROVE Setting up your test strips now ends where it should: on a screen showing exactly what was read from your bottle's color chart, with Save and Retake side by side. Nothing is stored until you choose. If the whole chart fits in one photo, one photo is all you need — turn the bottle for more only when the chart wraps around it. And if the chart cannot be read cleanly, Pool Pilot tells you and keeps your previous calibration instead of replacing it with a poor read. Calibrate Test Strips now sits on the test screen alongside AI Scan and Manual Entry, so setting your strips up again is always one tap away. HOT TUB ADVICE THAT FOLLOWS BROMINE CHEMISTRY Test strips read bromine on the same pads they use for chlorine, so a bromine tub can look like it has combined chlorine when it does not. Pool Pilot now reads those results as bromine throughout, and no longer works out shock advice from chlorine math that does not apply to your water. It also accounts for what a shock actually does in a bromine tub. Any oxidizer reactivates the bromide already dissolved in the water, so bromine climbs rather than falls. While your bromine is above the comfortable range, treatments that would push it higher wait, and the app tells you to let the level come down before you soak.
