This update from Apple will improve the functionality of this app. No new features are included.
Fixed a bug that caused the target area for the toolbar buttons to be shifted a few pixels up, making it difficult for some users to hit the buttons reliably.
Fixed broken move lists (not the one below the board, but the one that appears after tapping "Move" and "Move List" -- does anybody use this one?) on the new larger iPhones.
Another bug fix release.
Supporting two iOS versions with subtly different behaviors appears to be too difficult to me. The previous version was broken in both iOS 7 and iOS 8, each in its own way. This version addresses both problems:
* In iOS 8, user input of promotion moves didn't work. Fixed in the new version.
* On iPads running iOS 7, it was not possible to access the white pieces when editing positions, because they had disappeared below the bottom of the dialog. Fixed in the new version.
This is a boring, but important bugfix release:
* Fixed a bug that would cause the end of the move list in long games to be hidden behind the toolbar on large phones.
* Fixed a bug that would occasionally cause the app to crash when importing PGN files.
* Bug fixes.
* By popular request, an ugly arrow displaying the computer wants to play while analysing. Disabled by default, enable in the "Options" menu.
* Various minor graphical tweaks.
Fixed a bug that would sometimes cause the app to crash during launch when the clipboard contained non-ASCII characters.
Various bug fixes.
Updated and stronger chess engine.
New piece set "Russian" by Bryan Whitby.
Cleaned up the engine interface code, with the goal of making it even easier for developers to integrate other UCI chess engines with the GUI.
Removed the "remote engine" feature. Most people lacked the technical skills to set it up correctly, and with the fast CPUs of current iOS devices, remote engine analysis is no longer as valuable as before. If you really liked this feature, don't despair: I have some ideas for a better implementation of the same idea (perhaps in a separate app) a little further down the line.
NOTE: Unfortunately, there's an annoying bug in this version. Every game you look at in the nifty new game preview widget will cause the performance to degrade somewhat, until you exit and restart the program. A new version that corrects this bug will be available soon.
In the days of automatic app udates, does anyone still read release notes? Probably not, but in case someone out there still does, this is what's new in Stockfish for iOS 2.7.0:
* Support for importing games (in standard algebraic notation with English piece letters, with or without PGN headers) and positions (in Forsyth-Edwards Notation) from the clipboard. Just copy the game or position to the clipboard before starting the app, and Stockfish will offer to import it.
* Improved interface for loading games from databases. This is still a work in progress, but even in its current form, it's an improvement compared to the old interface.
* Added the ability to search by player name in PGN databases.
* Individual games in PGN databases can now be deleted.
* Added a few built-in databases of games by famous historical chess players, because it appears to be a fashionable thing to do, and because it gives you all a chance to experiment with the various new PGN related features and pester me with bug reports.
* Fixed a major bug that caused the menu options for configuring the remote engine not to work properly on the iPhone.
* Lots of minor user interface improvements throughout the program. You probably won't notice anything unless you are one of those who habitually go through all menus and try out everything you can find in every new version, but lots of minor stuff has been made a tiny bit prettier, smoother and more convenient.
* A new version of Bryan Whitby's "Modern" piece set, now with higher resolution for the iPad.
* The "XBoard" piece set has been removed. It was so similar to the "Merida" piece set (but with lower resolution) that I decided it was better just to drop it.
* Several minor bug fixes.
* iOS 7 support
* Various user interface enhancements
* Improved playing strength
* New and more varied opening library
* Bug fixes
* New "Move list" menu item brings up a clickable move list from which you can easily jump easily to any location in the current game.

* Supports dual-core CPUs, for faster and stronger play on the iPad 2.
